Happy World Vegetarian Day!

Today is World Vegetarian Day. But how many vegetarians are there anyway and in which countries is the vegetarian lifestyle represented most?

I took a look online and did some research.

Unfortunately, for the Asian and African countries I couldn’t really find any proper numbers. Other than that, the graphs give us a little overview on how many vegetarians there are worldwide. The number of vegetarians worldwide is estimated to be 1 billion!

In Germany the number is rising quickly and the number of vegans even more so. At the moment there are 800,000 vegans in Germany and the number has been rising exponentially.

I am excited to see what is going to happen in the next few years! The vegan food selection is getting better and better, vegan cookbooks have found their way to the bestseller lists and many vegan restaurants have opened.

Isn’t that great? 🙂 What do you say about these numbers?

    • Hi Ani 🙂
It’s pretty awesome! 🙂 They even have the first all vegetarian McDonald’s in India, so crazy 😀 However, the exact number of vegetarians is kind of hard to tell, because there is a difference between people considering themselves as vegetarian and actually being vegetarian. In India the estimated number had the biggest range from 20-50%. I chose 40% because I know even if some of them eat meat, they do it very infrequently (perhaps once a year)…
Anyway, just had a look at your blog, it’s really awesome! And great that you label your recipes vegan, I’ll definitely try some of them out, they look delicious 🙂

  1. Hello, could I ask, where did you find the information for the statistics? I would really aprecciate any help because it is so difficult to find something integrated. We do a research for a school project. Thanks 🙂
